A Micromosaic Grand Tour Table

The ebonised hardwood base, with gilt accents, having tripartite swept legs terminating in scrolled toes, supports a circular platform with a central finial, the base for three ring turned columns; the circular top, with a thumbnail outer moulding houses an outer reserve of specimen marbles, including, inter alia, Egyptian Granite, Porphyry and Lapis Lazuli; the inner reserve of black marble houses the central micromosaic roundel, most likely from the Vatican Workshops, and depicts Vespasian's Colosseum, at the time of construction, the largest amphitheatre in the world.
