A French Gueridon Chess Table
Constructed in mahogany, and dressed with extensive ormolu ornamentation, the Empire style designs being derived from Percier & Fontaine, and surmounted by a Florentine pietra dura specimen marble top; rising from triple ormolu claw feet, which support an incurved triangular column, dressed with rosettes and anthemion ormolu mounts, having triple shaped and line brackets atop, supporting the circular pietra dura platform, the outer band with a 'paper chain' geometric design, with a chessboard centre, with four outer hemispheres of rosso marble, housed within a mahogany frame dressed with a running ormolu band of laurel leaves.
