A Set of Three Large Hand-Painted Apothecary Jars
Probably by Maw & Son of London

Made on an impressive scale for display, these glass jars are entirely reverse-painted by hand on a white ground. One is labeled “Sodæ Tart” below the Prince of Wales feathers, another reads “Arrowroot” and also bears the coat of arms of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, and the third is marked “Acid Tart” beneath the Royal Arms of Scotland. Each jar keeps its original gilt domed lid.
Circa 1880
