An Impressive Marquetry Inlaid Cabinet
In the Louis XIV Manner of André-Charles Boulle
It is constructed in ebony and ormolu, adorned in première-partie inlay work of engraved brass and pewter, rising from tapering toursade feet. The breakfront façade presents a central door with an ormolu frame composed of lion's paw feet, a mask of Apollo, and a canopied surmount from which ribbon-tied bronze musical trophies are suspended flanking a marquetry panel in the manner of Jean Bérain. The door opens up to reveal a mahogany-lined and shelved interior. The flanking panels and sides of the cabinet exhibit exquisite marquetry work of rinceaux, and geometric foliates. The whole is surmounted with a Campan marble top.
French, circa 1870
