A Rosewood Revolving Bookcase
Of the George IV Period
Made of figured rosewood, the revolving bookcase rests on a stationary octagonal plinth base. Its adjustable shelves follow the same shape, and the chamfered, angled panels are set with decorative leather book spines. The round top above has a green tooled leather surface.
English, circa 1820
A similar bookcase design appears in Rudolph Ackermann's "Repository of Arts" of March 1810, and another round model from c.1810 is illustrated in Clifford Musgrave's "Regency Furniture" (London, 1961, pl. 77A).
