A Fine Center Table Signed by Fernand Kohl in the Louis XV Manner
It is constructed in mahogany, rising from fluted and tapered cylindrical legs, with acanthus fire gilt bronze sabots. The apron has a center drawer with running entre lac foliate bands, and the radiused corners contain a parquetry top, with a bronze trim. Signed to the base by the maker.
Paris, circa 1878
Fernand Kohl, situated at 55 Rue Traversiere, exhibited and obtained a bronze medal in the Paris Exhibition Universelle, in 1889, and is recorded in Denise LeDoux-LeBard’s ‘Dictionnaire des Ebenistes et Menuisiers de le XIXth Siecle’ published by Editions de l’Amateur, in 1989.
