It is constructed in bronze, patinated and gilt. The rectangular form case is supported on engraved oblate spherical feet. The frieze is dressed with a row of female masks capping pillars, linked with ribbands, from designs by Percier & Fontaine. Seated on a richly embroidered bolster, the classically draped female figure, emblematic of Victory, proffers a laurel wreath, with an anchor and the caduceus of Mercury alongside. The eight day movement strikes the hours on a bell. The 9 inch white enamel dial has the hours delineated in Roman numerals, and indicated with blued steel hands. French, Circa 1870
