John Atkinson Grimshaw

Born in Leeds, a prolific self- taught artist, influenced by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Stapleton Park, near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, was painted several times by Grimshaw, perhaps due to his sense of the history of a house and grounds that had been in the same family since 1402, almost a hundred years before Columbus discovered America.
Our picture is larger than most of Grimshaw’s works, and conveys that sense of the site, almost in the heart of England.
