Constructed in a finely patinated San Domingo mahogany; rising from oblate bun feet, of waisted sarcophagus form, dressed with ribbands in the Roman manner; the canted top having a tablet finial, hinged, and revealing a lead lined interior. Circa 1825

This period of English design was informed by the Greek and Roman taste, and many similar examples may be seen in Rudolph Ackermann’s ‘Furniture and Interiors’, the design Bible of the period.
