A Louis XVI Period Mantle Clock By Bruel of Paris

Constructed in Carrara marble and ormolu; rising from an ormolu dressed elliptical base supported by bronze toupie feet, the figures of Psyche and Cupid rest on a rocaille ground, housing the eight day twin train clock movement, with an enamel dial signed by Bruel, the maker, the hours in Roman numerals, striking on a bell, and delineating the dates with a pointer.
French, circa 1780

Bruel is listed in Brian Loomes 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World', NAG Press published 2006. A clock by Bruel is in the inventory of Mount Vernon, once home to George Washington, the first President of the United States of America.

Many variants appear on the theme of Venus and Eros in the neo -classic period of the late 18th century
