‘Sèvres’ Porcelain Urn in the Louis XVI Manner
The characteristic bleu celeste Sèvres-style porcelain body of oblate and bulbous form with gadrooned base bearing glass bead embellishments and mounted with fire-gilt bronze mounts of the finest quality; those one the side fashioned as handles and representing two Dionysian maenads; the removeable cover with applied gilt decoration having a figural ormolu group of a putto and a goat after the celebrated marble sculpture in the Louvre by Sarazin; the frieze below depicting portrait medallions of Ariadne and Flora to opposing sides.
