Constructed from mahogany, with boxwood stringing and brass handles, the dressing table supported on splayed legs with stretchers and spandrels; the hinged top opening to reveal a velvet-lined and automatic sliding fitted interior with silver and glass dressing accoutrements including a mirror, perfume bottles, brushes, and jewellery boxes; housing a further velvet-lined drawer underneath and two slides to either side. The silver is hallmarked for the Birmingham firm of A & J Zimmerman in 1905, and the drawers are fitted with tamperproof Bramah locks.
English, circa 1905
The Zimmerman silverware company was founded in Birmingham in 1879, specialising in luxury silver items such as picture frames and boxes. With their growing success, the company expanded with a London showroom, and registered as a limited company in 1902 when Zimmerman was at the height of its success.
