An Important Pair of Patinated & Gilt bronze Figural Candelabra

Modelled by Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887)
Constructed from patinated and gilt bronze, in the Louis XIV manner popularised by Jean le Pautre, the figural candelabra representing a man and a woman, distinguished by their dress, on pierced bronze bases, supporting a canopy of 9 arms with rams heads and foliate bobèches. Stamped several times H Picard and signed Denière underneath the base.
French, circa 1865
A nearly identical pair were exhibited by the bronzier Denière at the 1862 London International Exhibition, and illustrated in Waring's celebrated catalogue 'Masterpieces of Industrial Art & Sculpture" on plate 276.
