An Ormolu-Mounted Sèvres Style Vase

Standing over two feet tall, the white ground porcelain vase with parcel gilt on turquoise and hand-painted decorative figural motifs featuring the central figure of Flora surrounded by flowers, maidens and putti; the reverse painted with flower baskets, pastoral accoutrements and emblems of Love. Mounted on an ormolu base and both sides set with scrolled ormolu handles. The front signed 'Ch Fuchs."

Charles Fuchs, born in Bonn, is recorded as displaying works on faïence and porcelain in 1879 and 1880 Paris Salon. He was active throughout the second half of the nineteenth century, working in France where large-scale porcelain objets d'art were being made.
