A Pair of Miniature Bronzes of Roman Busts
On Marmore Nero Columns
In the Manner of Georges Servant
After the original models exhibited at the Paris exposition universelle of 1867, the two patinated bronze busts representing the Roman god Bacchus and his lover Ariadne resting on Belgian black marble plinths of Ionic capitol columns, with laurel wreathes on the square bases.
French, Circa 1870
A pair of similar busts, of identical size, but stamped by Georges Servant was sold at Sotheby's New York, 19th Century Furniture, Sculpture, Ceramics, Silver and Works of Art, 22 April 2010, lot 418 ($8,750).
