A Mid-19th Century Carved Mahogany Desk Chair

Constructed from solid carved mahogany, the chair standing on confidently lobed baluster front legs, with splayed legs to the rear, all with porcelain castors; the horseshoe-shaped back with pierced scrolls and a buttoned red leather upholstery matching the seat.
English, circa 1850

This chair is nearly identical to the so-called "Charles Dickens Chair" (A9979) at the Museum of London, sharing many carved features. The famous author was photographed several times sitting in this chair, and it is believed he used this chair at his home in Gads Hill whilst writing a Tale of Two Cities.
