'The First Day at School'
By Vida Gabor (1937 - 2007)
Oil on board, initialled lower right by the artist, and housed within a swept gilt frame.
An autodidactic polymath, who was firstly a classically trained musician, and flautist for the Budapest Opera, later training as a goldsmith, after as an astronomer and telescope maker; then, an artist, adapting the style of the 17th century Dutch masters, to paint whimsical scenes of 'Old Europe'.
