From the Royal Nursery at Sandringham

The triple-fold screen made of oak and parcel gilded, each panel surmounted by a carved giltwood cresting of the Prince of Wales feathers, the crown and the motto 'Ich Dien,' both sides of the screen decorated with a plethora of historical postcards including themes of childhood, Christmas, friendship, fidelity and love. The central panel bearing a brass plaque reading 'Presented to Their Royal Highnesses / The Prince & Princess of Wales / For the Royal Nursery / By Mrs Carr, Widow of Dr Carr / of Blackheath Dec 1901.

Provenance:

Given to Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales (later King George V, 1865-1936, and Queen Mary, 1867-1953) in December 1901.
Subsequently housed in the Royal Nursery at York Cottage, Sandringham.
Later in the possession of H.R.H. Princess Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood (1897-1965), at the nursery at Goldsborough Hall, Yorkshire.
Thereafter owned by the Hon. Gerald Lascelles and Mrs Angela Lascelles, remaining in the nursery at Fort Belvedere, Runnymede, Surrey, between 1956 and 1976.
Thence by descent at Virginia Water Cottage, Windsor Great Park, Berkshire.
