A Pair of Bronzed Equestrian Electrotypes
By Pierre-Jules Mêne
Both patinated to a bronze finish, one known as ‘Cheval libre’ (The Arab Stallion) & the other known as ‘Jument arabe, Nedjibé’ (Arab Mare), on naturalistic bases and moulded plinths. Each with a mould incised signature.
French, circa 1900
Both sculptures and their editions are documented and discussed in PJ Mêne’s catalogue raisonné. Mêne is considered one of the pioneers of animal sculpture in the 19th century.
