Thomas Sidney Cooper (1803-1902) was a British painter celebrated for his depictions of cattle and rural landscapes. Born in Canterbury, Cooper displayed artistic talent early in life, eventually studying at the Royal Academy in London. He achieved widespread acclaim for his ability to portray livestock with remarkable realism, often working en plein air to capture the nuances of rural England. His works were sought after by collectors throughout the 19th century, and he exhibited prolifically at the Royal Academy over his long career. Known as the "Cow Cooper," his legacy endures through his detailed, affectionate renderings of pastoral life, which reflect the Victorian fascination with rural scenes and natural beauty.
