A William IV Mahogany Serving Table
Of bold and architectural proportion, the rectangular reverse breakfront top of well-figured mahogany, above a carved frieze of stiff-leaf foliage. The table is raised on a pair of powerful tapering front legs and trapezoidal rear supports, each superbly carved in high relief with cascading clasped acanthus leaves over boldly carved waterleaf mouldings, all resting on squared plinths.
English, circa 1835
Tables of this type were typically produced for the dining or reception rooms of grand English houses, where they served both decorative and functional purposes, often as sideboards, pier tables, or console forms used for serving.
