A German Silver Gilt Crystal Centrepiece

The lead-crystal concave bowl of coracle shape with cut diamond pattern and hatched details cradled within the silver gilt surround, each side featuring a ribbon-tied floral basket flanked by winged cherubs connected by fruit-laden garlands. The shaped foot fully marked denoting the maker and 800 purity.

Established in 1817 by Johann Daniel Schleissner, a goldsmith from Augsburg, Schleissner & Söhne became the leading firm in Hanau's 19th century revival of antique-style silver. Initially specialising in Augsburg-style silver for export, the firm flourished under his son, Daniel Philipp August Schleissner-a painter, silversmith, and scholar of historic collections.
