A 'Black Forest' Bear Dressing Table
Retailed by Trauffer of St. Moritz
Carved from Lindenwood, the table modelled as a cross-legged mother bear holding a rustic table, complete with drawer, and the bear cubs supporting an oval mirror profusely carved with foliage, on top of which is balanced another cub.
German, circa 1880

This documented carved table is as much a work of art as it is a functional piece of furniture. Masterfully carved, large sculptural furniture of this kind is very rare. This particular table was retailed by Peter Trauffer of St Moritz, who handled some of the finest Black Forest works at the height of their production.
