How Much I Care About You
By Cesare Lapini

A particularly refined and accomplished example of late nineteenth century Italian sculpture, carved from white statuary marble, an Italian shepherd boy poised confidently in contrapossto, dressed in traditional farmer's clothes including the ciocie sandals and a calabash at his waist as he balances a walking stick across his shoulders and casts an affectionate glance to his left.
The base inscribed with the Italian title "Quanto Ti Vo Bene", and signed 'C. Lapini / Firenze 1890.'
Italian, dated 1890

Cesare Lapini (1848-1893)

A celebrated sculptor of genre figures and groups, Cesare Lapini was born in Florence and enjoyed a successful career as a sculptor of busts and statues, especially of idealised subjects. Lapini exhibited six works at the Esposizione Generale Italiana in Turin in 1884, including 'Sorpresa', and exhibited in Rome in 1888. After his death, his successful workshop became the Galleria Lapini which was still operating in 1900, and exhibited an impressive number of statues at the Paris 1900 Exposition Universelle.
