'Un Amateur'
by Pierre Louis Détrier
Constructed in a well cast patinated bronze; mounted on a rectangular cavetto moulded plinth, bearing a cartouche with the legend 'Un Amateur, Salon 1888', the connoisseur, dressed in the 18th century manner closely inspects a painting, supported on an easel, with a magnifying glass, a cockaded hat and a book close by. Signed to the book by the artist.

Pierre Louis Détrier (1822-1897)
Born in Vougé court in the Haute-Saône region of eastern France, and an exhibitor at the Paris Salon from 1866 onwards. His work may be seen in Langres Arts Museum, close to his birthplace.
