A Generous Pair of Regency Period Bergères
Attributed to Gillows of London & Lancaster
The frames of solid carved mahogany, the chairs supported on castor-shod turned, tapering and reeded legs; the upholstered green leather seats with sweeping back supports and scrolling armrests with fluted carved supports of conforming shape.
Circa 1820
A documented pair of chairs bearing distinct stylistic and formal characteristics to the present bergères have been traced to the famous firm of Gillow & Co, bearing the makers’ stamps of Gillow craftsmen, sold Christies May 2019.
