A Pair of Large Giltwood Mirrors
in the Chinese Chippendale Style

Constructed in carved gilt wood, the oval mercury-backed plates housed within elaborate frames incorporating 'C' scrolls, foliate tree branches, cascading icicles, with carved Ho-Ho birds perched to either side and a central pagoda at the apex.

This very design is a near copy of the original drawing by Thomas Chippendale in his The Gentleman & Cabinetmaker's Director of 1762 (3rd ed.), on Plate CLXXIV.
