Constructed from Derbyshire Blue-John fluospar and very fine cast and chased ormolu; the stepped square section bases supported on globular feet, pedestals ornamented with elliptical laurel wreath medallions framing profile busts of ‘Cleopatra’; Greek key decorated platforms; over, the urns of waisted form, the torsade bases issuing laurel sprays, having the inset Blue-John draped with swags, and atop, the candle holders. Circa 1770

Recorded in Nicholas Goodison’s ‘Matthew Boulton, Ormolu’, revised and extended edition published by Christies in 2002, from the earlier work published 1974, pp 328 to 330, under the heading ‘Cleopatra Vase’, and extensively discussed by the author.
