Johann Grossmann of Interlaken
The workshop and premises of Grossmann was established in the mid-nineteenth century in Interlaken, a town across the lake from Brienz. As the main transport gateway into the mountains and lakes of the region, Interlaken was the most important and fashionable town of the Bernese Oberland. Grossmann is considered one of the most accomplished carvers, specialising in luxury objects of the best quality.
Grossmann presented his carvings at several international exhibitions including Vienna in 1873, Philadelphia in 1876, and Zurich in 1883.
