Mellier & Co

Mellier & Co was a London-based firm established around 1870 by French-born Charles Mellier, who had previously worked for Monbro and Company, a renowned Anglo-French cabinet maker. Mellier expanded the business, which included upholstery, interior decorating, cabinet making, and art dealing. The company exhibited at the 1904 International Exhibition in St Louis and furnished the Mauretania ocean liner. Mellier died in 1887, and the business continued under various partnerships until the mid-1930s. The firm's commissions included decorative works for Hertford House and Halton House, and interior decorations for the marriage ceremony of Leopold de Rothschild to Maria Perugia at the Central Synagogue in Great Portland Street. Mellier & Co also supplied the interior of the dining room at Farmleigh House, owned by the Guinness family.
