An Unusual Carved Walnut Open Armchair
Bearing the Royal Coat of Arms
The oversized spoonback design providing the perfect frame to showcase a marvellous embroidered tapestry back centred with the Royal Coat of Arms as used during the reign of Queen Victoria. Carved from walnut, with cabriole front legs, open armrests with carved foliate design, and a waisted backframe with scrolled foliate carving and floral crest on the toprail. The padded seat upholstered with matching tapestry also bearing the Royal Coat of Arms.

The Royal Coat of Arms exists in several versions and has undergone various alterations depending on the monarch on the throne. The most recent update was in 2024 with the accession of King Charles III. The tapestry design can be dated to the reign of Queen Victoria, and includes symbols of England, Ireland and Scotland, alongside the Garter, the Imperial Crown, and the Motto 'Dieu et mon droit.'
