A Pair of George III Style Girandoles
After the design of Thomas Johnson
Carved from giltwood and housing an oval bevelled plate, the reeded frame decorated with oak branches dotted with acorns, two branches modelled as candle-arms, a pair of birds perched on either side, while a feeding squirrel sits atop, with a curious dog seated below; the other girandole carved as its mirror image.
English, circa 1880
These mirrors are a true reflection of Thomas Johnson's design published as plate 55 in his well-known book of designs from 1761.
