Nymph of the Fields

Carved from Carrara marble, the nymph has her arms raised, tying a floral wreath around her head. Signed to the base “C. Pittaluga Firenze.”
Italian, Circa 1915
This marble belongs to an important series of sculptures made by Pittaluga of nymphs in various poses. Two larger examples were exhibited at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, and are presently on view at the National Gallery of Art Washington as part of their permanent collection.
