A Very Fine George III Style
Satinwood and Marquetry Demilune Commode
Constructed from choice satinwood veneers with rosewood crossbanding and sycamore, harewood, ebony, and pigmented fruitwood marquetry elevated with masterful penwork; the commode of D-outline supported on strung square tapering legs with spade feet; above, the three decorated panels - the middle a cupboard door - of satinwood inlaid with Neo-classical motifs including a central cartouche of a bow and quiver surrounded by ribbon-tied flowers, garlands of husks, rosettes, and wreaths; the bowfront frieze of conforming inlay with central oval fan paterea; the top crossbanded with rosewood and edged with ebony and boxwood stringing, within which a broad band of inlaid floral garlands contained by conforming stringing and crossbanding displaying a demilune panel of satinwood with a central oval fan design.
