A Carved Mahogany Cabinet Bookcase in the George II Manner

Designed in the neo-classical fashion pioneered by Thomas Chippendale, the mahogany cabinet bookcase is crisply carved throughout, rising from voluminous scrolling supports; the canted sides with acanthus leaf carved decoration and flanking the lockable graduated drawers with brass swan neck handles, the superstructure rising from scrolls in conforming style and enclosing a three-shelved upper cabinet; the cornice applied with carved floral garlands and a central lion’s mask. Stamped to the rear 'H. Samuel, 484 Oxford Street W'.

H. Samuel are recorded at this address from 1872 onwards, trading as ‘dealers in works of art and furniture.’
