A Three-Fold Arcadian Screen
By Ferdinand Wagner the Younger (1847-1927)
Executed in oil on canvas, the arched panels depicting a continuous allegorical scene of childhood set within an Arcadian landscape. Each panel painted with academic precision, the figures rendered in luminous flesh tones amid dense, naturalistic foliage. Symbolic fauna, including a resting tiger and a prominently placed peacock, inhabit the scene bathed in a golden light and deep verdant greens. The frames recovered in blue fabric with a narrow gilt slip, hinged. Signed on the central panel.

Ferdinand Wagner the Younger (1847-1927)
Wagner was a German academic painter associated with the Munich school, celebrated for allegorical and genre subjects characterised by refined draughtsmanship and a strong classical sensibility. He exhibited widely in his native Germany during the late 19th century and was particularly sought after for his decorative frescos and screens, such as those which can still be seen at the Munich City Hall and in the "Ferdinand Wagner Hall" named after the artist in Passau.
